The story begins in Sendai City, where high school student Yuji Itadori, a physically gifted teenager with a carefree attitude, visits his hospitalized grandfather. His grandfather urges him to use his strength to help others and to die surrounded by people, imparting a sense of purpose before passing away. Meanwhile, at Sugisawa Municipal High School, Yuji is part of the Occult Research Club, where his friends Sasaki and Iguchi investigate supernatural phenomena.

That night, the club examines a mysterious sealed object—a decayed finger believed to be a cursed artifact. Unbeknownst to them, the finger belongs to Ryomen Sukuna, a powerful ancient sorcerer known as the King of Curses. The finger attracts malevolent cursed spirits to the school, putting Yuji’s friends in danger. Megumi Fushiguro, a first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High and a sorcerer, arrives to retrieve the finger but is overwhelmed by the strength of the curses drawn to it.

Yuji, driven by his desire to protect others, confronts the cursed spirits. To save his friends and Megumi, he makes a desperate decision: he swallows Sukuna’s finger, absorbing its immense cursed energy. This act allows Sukuna, the King of Curses, to temporarily take over Yuji’s body. Sukuna easily defeats the cursed spirits, showcasing his terrifying power, but Yuji miraculously regains control of his body, suppressing Sukuna’s influence.

Megumi informs Yuji that the jujutsu sorcerers will likely execute him for becoming Sukuna’s vessel, as Sukuna’s power is too dangerous to be left unchecked. However, Satoru Gojo, a powerful and eccentric jujutsu sorcerer, arrives and tests Yuji’s ability to control Sukuna. Impressed by Yuji’s resolve to save others and his ability to suppress Sukuna, Gojo proposes an alternative: instead of immediate execution, Yuji can collect all of Sukuna’s fingers (scattered across the world) to eventually destroy the curse entirely. Yuji agrees, setting the stage for his journey as a jujutsu sorcerer.

The chapter ends with Yuji facing an uncertain future, now tied to the dangerous legacy of Sukuna, as he steps into the world of jujutsu to protect others and fulfill his grandfather’s dying wish.
